Rarely do we see one filled with such purpose and tenacity as we do when we experience the man Chris Gabriel. Coming from humble beginnings in Birmingham, England, Chris first found a love for rap music through a trip to New York at age 13. There in his own words, he experienced, 'the vibrancy of a culture I'd never seen in such concentration before. The vibe was hip hop. Jay-Z had just realised H to the Izzo, Fabolous had just come out and the streets were buzzing. Seeing the colours and joy in beats and lyricism gave me a buzz like I'd never known'. After coming home infected with the hip-hop bug he began writing, heavily influenced Jay-Z, Ja Rule and Fabolous. He began at that point to be heavily influenced by West Coast rap, listening to Snoop Dogg and supergroup 213 whilst developing his own style. These were formative years for Chris, and as the years went by, he found a kinship in rappers such as Sway, Terrafirma and Blak Twang. Artists from his own shores who documented 'what was going on here, yet had flow'. Flow has always been important to Chris. After a time away from the mic to understand his purpose, he has come back fueled with an added resolve, bringing a new bite and reality to the game that is reminiscent of old school generals yet also possesses something we can't quite put our finger on. 'Rappers like Giggs, Wretch and Little Simz seem to be setting the tone in the UK with flow, heart and substance. It's time for me to also bring the medicine'. The game has been patiently waiting. And in the words of Rockstar, 'Redemption is coming'. It's closer than you think.
